A student asked me this during last weekend’s soap formulation class; and my suggestion?
Don’t Overthink!
Just do whatever you want, start first then later refine it once your business grows.
When i was starting my pharmacy business; i did all the overthinking one can do.
I Had 101 business plans, went to many people and banks for loans for this project that seemed perfect in my mind (after overthinking for 4 years🤣)
Then it came the day to launch; Krik krik. No one came into the door. Not a single person.
Because; i spend so much on the premise and design and the systems that i didn’t have ‘much’ left for marketing.
And over the 8 months; i barely made any sales.
For me; a pharmacy that customized skincare for people with eczema and psoriasis would work! It worked in US, it worked in London, so i was sure it will work in Malaysia.
I had the data too! But my mistake was; i didn’t just do it. I didn’t test the concept first.
I was so into the ‘data’ and plans that when it came to actually doing the business; i was paralyzed.
If it was me today; i would just start at home small, just to see if it works; before i even made it big and spend so much in reno etc.
And i guess i did learn fast; coz the next business; SoapLab Malaysia; i started just like that at home.
Started Small and just testing out wha works and getting rid of what doesn’t.
And fast forward today; this is our 12th year!
So ya; don’t overthink. Just do it and go with the flow💪🏼
