How To Make Natural Shampoo in Malaysia

Hi good morning.
In this week's How To Series; we will be making shampoo! Finally isn't it? Besides the solid shampoo we made 2 years ago; we never actually did any shampoo because we couldn't find the best surfactant to make this shampoo.

What is Surfactant?

Surfactants are cleaning agents used to clean things. Different surfactants are used to make different cleaning agents. When you are making shampoo, you need to use surfactants because the primary reason to use a shampoo is to clean our hair so surfactant is a must!

Over the years there are many stories about how bad surfactants are mainly sodium laureth sulphate (SLS). People say its harsh and very drying so one shouldn't use it on skin.

True. But only if you use it more than the recommended dose.

Problem with commercial soaps are there is too much of SLS in it since its very cheap. So commercial factories puts more then they are supposed to. Thats why too many people have skin problems these days.

So anyway enough about the rantings; we obviously prefer to use naturally derived ingredients therefore we decided that we will not produce a shampoo recipe until we find the best surfactant; and we finally did! hooray!

The surfactant we will be using in our shampoo formula is Disodium laureth sulfosuccinate. This is a very very mild surfactant that is derived from coconut oil & palm oil. Its so mild that its mostly used by high end brands in their baby products!

In all our recipes we will be using this and cocoamidopropyl betaine (another mild bubble making surfactant derived from coconut oil). Most of the recipes for shampoo would be mild and its something you can use daily if you wanted to.

Of course we will also have recipes using butters and luxurious oils so if you are one of those with dry scalp, scalp psoriasis etc; these recipes will be good for you too:-)

Do check the tutorials and recipes out over the next few days..
