Fresh Ingredients In Cosmetic Products Cannot Get KKM NOT (registration)

This is one of the most commonly question being asked and i thought of writing this out for you.

We have many potential clients who are making products at home and when they started; they started by adding food grade items into their soaps/ oils etc.

This is all fine when using for own use; as long as its discarded after 3-4 days.

however; when making it for selling; it's not something i would advice you to do; for simple reason; the shelf life.

When you are using fresh ingredients; generally it will spoil in room temperature; just like food. if you will not eat food in room temperature after 3 days; you should not use the products in 3 days too!

What About Powders?

Granted that powders are often dehydrated and it can be kept longer. However, after you have mixed it; introducing water into it; similarly it will spoil fast too. 

Try adding water to your tumeric powder; and leave it in room temperature for 3-4 days; would you then eat it? no right? coz the smell is off; or the taste is off. Similarly; it applies the same for cosmetics.

But i Dont See It Spoilt!

yes you cant see it using naked eyes; but that doesnt mean your product doesnt have microbial (like bacteria and mold) in it. To know for sure you will need to do a lab test for it. specifically microbial test. And from there; you will see the growth as well. Again just because you dont see it doesnt mean it isnt there!

What About KKM NOT?

so this is when GMP factory like Soap lab comes in. Recently many handmade clients have asked us to do their productsd for them; but using thier formulation. Yes we can do it: however we cant do it when you use fresh ingredinets. 

When we submit the documentation for the notification and GMP, one of the test we have to do is microbial test, anmd another is stability test.

both this test requires us to do lab test on your products. anmd if your products dont pass these tests, you are not allowed to sell it to the market. 

and this is why; if you are using fresh ingredients; almost 99.99% chances of your products to fail this microbial test.

So whats The Alternative?

The alternative is; use cosmetic extracts! they are more potent; and they are 'cleaner' so they usually have a longer shelf life. Ypu can find cosmetic extracts sold with suppliers; but just make sure its pure and not adultrated with alcohol or other bulking agents just to make it 'cheaper'. 

like in SoapLab; we used to purchase them from local suppliers but when we do tests on it; turns out its not really 'pure' and most dont pass microbial tests too. So always find a proper supplier for this.
