History:

Pine tar is from pine wood and its used widely for treatment of psoriasis. Its also used in many medicinal treatment for years now and its main action is to reduce inflammation and itch. It also has anti fungal, anti inflammatory, anti bacterial and anti mitotic properties. The use of pine tar in medicine was first described by Hippocrates more than 2000 years ago so you can imagine how many 'clinical' studies there are on this ingredient.

Uses:

Currently; the most common condition pine tar is used is for conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis and other dry, itchy, flaky or inflamed skin conditions

Dose:

You can add up to 2.3% of pine tar oil into your cosmetic bases (soap, cream, lotion etc)  for soothing conditions such as itch and redness. Bare in mind though; the smell of pine tar is really not 'very' nice. Its slightly woody and its advisable to mask it with different smell as it can get too 'strong' and nauseating for some people.
