Pros & Cons Of Making Handmade Natural Skincare In Malaysia

We are all becoming more and more conscious about what we put on our skin on a daily basis.

Rightly so, as the skin is the largest organ in the body. It is only a natural progression that we start reading ingredients on the bottles of products we buy, wondering if these are all safe.

While most chemical ingredients are safe, some are quite questionable or downright dangerous.

But who has the time to go through those long twisted and confusing ingredient lists word by word?

And that’s what led us to start making our own homemade products. Whether you have very specific requirements for skin or you are simply wanting to make a better choice, making your own concoctions allows you to address each one of your needs accurately.

Let’s now look at the Pros and Cons

Pros

  1. Personalised products: whatever your skin needs are, you no longer have to choose between the random generic products which are everywhere. You can customise the ingredients to suit your need and even have different scents each time!
  2. Transparency: be in control over exactly what goes into the products. You can control if the ingredients are organic, if they were obtained from sustainable sources and at the same time know exactly what you are putting on your skin.
  3. Cost effective: Though the initial investment to make your own products may seem expensive, overall you will realize that it is much cheaper to have your own beauty products.
  4. Consistency: If you have made the best product for yourself, simply take down the recipe accurately and you’ll never have to worry about a product being discontinued.

Cons

1) Trial and error: making the perfect potion for your skin isn’t entirely easy. This leads to a lot of trial and error and time required, however it’s only until you get what you love.

2) Short lifespan: homemade products will never last as long as mass produced items. This is both a con and pro; even though you cannot keep the bottle of cream for more than 6 months or a year, you know that it doesn’t contain a lot of preservatives to keep it from going bad.

3) Storage Space: as you are making everything from scratch, you will need a small space to store all your ingredients. Heres the equipments needed to start

4) Investment in ingredients and supplies: The initial investment to get good quality ingredients and equipment will be slightly expensive. Don’t be afraid to put some money in the initial stages, this will pay off once the products are ready for use.

To us, the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to making our own skincare. Forget reading all those long lists of ingredients and simply know what exactly goes into the bottle.
