How To Make Creamy Avocado Cold Process Soap

Hey all! 

Today we will be making the Creamy Avocado soap. 

It is a cold process soap which retains the natural goodness of all the ingredients used to make it. 

To make the soap you need to combine an oil mix (consists of olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil and castor oil) with lye flakes, distilled water, mashed avocado and melon jasmine fragrance oil. we also added chromium green and red iron oxide mica to bring distinct color to your soap. 

The oil mix consists of olive, castor, palm and coconut oil. Each of this oils bring a wide array of benefits to your skin. Through the cold process, all the benefits from the coconut oil are maintained. 

The oil mix are great moisturizers which nourish and keep the skin healthy and revitalized. Lye flakes keep the skin moisturized during the bath. 

The mashed avocado moisturizes and hydrates the skin, and brings out a radiant glow. Finally, the melon jasmine fragrance oil gives the soap a nice twist of fruity and floral aroma.

Preparation Time : 20 minutes

Total Time : 40 minutes

Ingredients: (makes 5 x 50g soap bars)

1. 210g SoapLab's Oil Mix
2. 31g SoapLab’s Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) Pastilles 
3. 20g Distilled Water  
4. 15g Melon Jasmine Fragrance Oil  
5. 20g Mashed Avocados  
6. 3g Chromium Green Mica 
7. 1g Red Iron Oxide Mica 
8. 10-20 sprays of Rubbing Alcohol 
9. 6 cavity silicon mold 50g 

Visual Guide  

1. Combine lye flakes with distilled water carefully. Wear gloves & long sleeves to avoid backsplash getting in contact with exposed skin. 
   
   
   
2. Slowly mix with a whisk until all the lye flakes have dissolved in the distilled water. Solution may become hot, do be cautious. 
   
   
   
3.  To bring lye solution to room temperature, place container in a water bath.
   
   
   
4. Separately, pour your Oil Mix into a heat resistant mixing container. ( container 1)
   
   
   
5. Combine room temperature lye water with the oil mix in the same container. 
   
   
   
6. Next, use a whisk and mix until it reaches thin trace. Timing of this may vary as the faster you mix, the faster solution will saponify and reaches thin trace. 
   
   
   
7. Next, add in Melon Jasmine Fragrance Oil into soap mix. 
   
   
   
8. Add in mashed avocados into the container and mix everything using a whisk until colour, avocado & oil are evenly dispersed throughout the soap mixture.
   
   
   
9. Pour out 1/3 of the mixture into another mixing container. (Container 2)
   
   
   
10.  In container 2, add in red iron oxide mica into the soap mixture. Mix again. 
    
    
    
11. Back to container 1, add in Chromium Green Mica into the soap mixture and mix again. 
12. Prepare your silicone mold. Spray with Rubbing Alcohol to sanitise mold. Next, pour in soap mixture  from container 1 into each cavity. Pour carefully, soap might still be warm. 
    
    
    
13. Put a dollop of soap from container 2 in the middle. Then, leave soap to harden, usually it will take 24 - 48 hours
    
    
    
14. Once hardened, carefully pull mold away from soap. This will help preserve those desired sharp & crispy edges of the soap.  
    
    
    
15. Whenever you feel ready, gently push soap out from the mold.  
    
    
    
16.  Soap will be needing 2 - 4 weeks to fully cure before it is used. Keep soap aside till then.
