Hi my name is nisha: pharmacist and formulator and today we gonna explore why hair falls.

Now there are many reasons why hair falls like hormonal, pregnancy, genetics, medications etc

But if you have none of those and your hair still falls: it maybe because of your shampoo

As a formulator; one of the most commonly used surfactant (the cleaning agent) in your shampoo is sulphates.

Because they are cheap; and easily available. They are very good in cleaning too.

How surfactant works is by capturing dirt and cleaning it away. It may have work excellently when it was 20-30 yrs ago when most of human used to work ‘outdoor’ with dust and sweat

Now we are all indoor; we dont get dirty a lot; and yet the same amount of surfactants are used to clean.

So what happens is; these surfactants starts ‘cleaning’ our natural oil; resulting in dry scalp.

So what dry scalp does; it gets itchy; irritated, causes blocked pores and psoriosis like conditions (small little dandruff like flakes) , brittle hair and so on

Heres some studies that shows; sulphates are the biggest culprit when it comes to this.

Heres a study showing effects of sulfates on the skin. The study found that sulfates can cause skin irritation and may disrupt the skin barrier function, leading to increased water loss and dryness.

Heres a study that examined the effects of various detergents, including sulfates, on scalp skin. The study found that sulfates can cause irritation and disruption of the scalp barrier function, which may contribute to scalp dryness and potential hair damage.

Heres a study to compare sulfate-containing shampoo with a sulfate-free shampoo on hair damage. The study found that the use of the sulfate-free shampoo resulted in less hair breakage and damage compared to the sulfate-containing shampoo

So what do we do? Try changing your shampoo to a sulphate free shampoo.

You can either make it your own by using shampoo base thats available in our link in the bio; the recipes can also be found there. or you can also purchase the ready made ones. Our best seller for this is the Frangipani and santan shampoo made from santan extract and sulphate free shampoo.

You can try these out and it may reduce your hair fall.

Let me know if you have any questions below. Thank you
