Fresh Ginger and Poppy Seeds Soap- Hot Process Method: How to Make

I've posted numerous method on making handmade soap including melt and pour soap and cold process soap. today i will show you on how to make hot process soap. If you are new and have not read our article on the different types of soap making, click here.
So anyways, hot process soap is an extension of cold process soap. As you know, cold process soap although produces a really smooth bar of soap, it can sometimes be a little pain knowing that you will have to wait almost 1-2 months before you could use the soap. So if you have to kae soap that can be used immediately or if you need soaps ready for some weekend bazaar, then this would be your solution.
Also, at times there is a lot of problem associated with cold process soap; your soap seizes and traces fast, colour didn't turn out the way you want it to, you have layers of oil building up because of false trace etc. Do Not Throw that soap away! Recook it using the hot process method. How to do it?
Follow our tutorial below:

Ingredients:

  1. 210g Olive Oil
  2. 210g Palm Kernel Oil
  3. 210g Coconut Oil
  4. 70g Castor Oil
  5. 107g NaOH
  6. 200g Water
  7. 20g Ylang Ylang Ginger EO
  8. 100g Poppy Seeds
  9. 100g Dried Ginger (Finely Grated)
How to Make:
  1. Measure oil and fill into a slow cooker. If you do not have a slow cooker you can always double boil it. Do not apply direct heat as this will burn the soap.

  2. Add in Lye solution

  3. Mix till trace is achieved. In hot process it doesn't matter which type of trace is achieved as it will all be cooked. I personally prefer a really thick trace as this sort of lessens the cooking time

  4. Leave your soap alone. Make sure you are nearby as the soap will bubble up as this due to heat. All you have to do is mix the soap to release the heat

  5. Your soap will reach this stage in 15 minutes. This is the applesauce stage. Keep on mixing every 15 mins.

  6. This is the taffy stage where everything is translucent. At this point of time your soap is ready. I usually reach this stage after about an hour.

  8. Mix really well. It will be quite difficult to mix nevertheless, try your best to mix them well.

  9. Scoop it out into the mold and tap to remove air bubble. The surface of your soap is not gonna be smooth and perfect but thats the beauty of hot process soap. It gives you this rustic look:-)
  10. Leave the mold for about 12-24 hours. Unmold and you can use it right away. But i would suggest you air dry it for another 2-3 days to ensure all the water has evaporated out so that you get a really hard bar of soap.
Done! Super easy right:-) Try it and let us know how it went:-)

In this kit below you get to make about 12-14 bars of soap (depending how you cut). This kit includes: (P/S: This recipe will only make 700g soap, the above recipe makes 1kg. Measurement will be provided)
