DIY Fresh Honeydew & Poppy Seed Cold Process Soap

Today’s exciting recipe will be for the Honeydew & Poppy soap. It is a cold process soap, which preserves the benefits of the ingredients used to make the soap. If you are not sure what cold process soap is; please click here.

So anyways; Ingredients can lose their benefits through the heating process, so because of that, its the best to make a cold process soap to retain the nutrients and benefits.

To make soap; combine an oil mix with lye flakes, distilled water and honeydew juice. The oil mix provides different benefits to the skin. For example, coconut oil has great antibacterial qualities and also moisturizes the skin keeping it smooth and radiant. Castor oil, also has antibacterial properties and is also anti-inflammatory. It reduces inflammation of the skin, and helps heal wounds and scars. 

Honeydew juice is a great addition for your skin. It is full with Vitamin C, which strengthens the skin cells and helps to fight the effects of aging. 

Finally; add, honeydew Fragrance for a sweet fruit smell. We also added poppy seedsas it will gently exfoliate the skin. To give the soap a nice soothing color, we added a green liquid color pigment.  

Duration:

Preparation Time : 20 minutes

Total Time : 40 minutes

Ingredients: (makes 5 x 50g soap bars)

1. 210g Oil Mixture (30% Coconut Oil, 30% Olive Oil, 30% Palm Oil, 10% Castor Oil)
2. 31g SoapLab’s Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) Pastilles 
3. 20g Distilled Water  
4. 15g Honeydew Melon Fragrance Oil  
5. 20g Honeydew Juice  
6. 3g Green Liquid Colour Pigment 
7. 2g Poppy Seeds 
8. 10-20 sprays of Rubbing Alcohol 
9. 6 cavity silicon mold 50g 

Equipments You Will Need:

1. Heat Resistant Containers
2. Spatula/ Stirrer (Can Also be kitchen Spoon)
3. Weighing Scale (Digital)

Visual Guide  

1. Combine lye flakes with distilled water carefully. Wear gloves & long sleeves to avoid backsplash getting in contact with exposed skin. 
   
   
   
2. Slowly mix with a whisk until all the lye flakes have dissolved in the distilled water. Solution may become hot, do be cautious. 
   
   
   
3. To bring lye solution to room temperature, place container in a water bath.
   
    
4. Separately, pour your Oil Mix into a heat resistant mixing container. 
   
   
   
5. Combine room temperature lye water with the oil mix in the same container. 
   
   
   
6. Next, use a whisk and mix until it reaches thin trace. Timing of this may vary as the faster you mix, the faster solution will saponify and reaches thin trace. 
   
   
   
7. Next, add in Honeydew Melon Fragrance Oil into soap mix. 
   
   
   
8. Add in Green Liquid Colour Pigment into the container.
   
   
   
9. Add some Honeydew Juice into the container. You may squeeze & strain the fruit before hand.
   
   
   
10. Add in Poppy Seeds and mix everything using a whisk until colour, juice & oil are evenly dispersed throughout the soap mixture.
    
11. Prepare your silicone mold. Spray with Rubbing Alcohol to sanitise mold. Next, pour in soap mixture into each cavity. Pour carefully, soap might still be warm. 
    
12. Sprinkle on more poppy seeds on top of each soap. Then, leave soap to harden, usually it will take 24 - 48 hours
    
    
    
13. Once hardened, carefully pull mold away from soap. This will help preserve those desired sharp & crispy edges of the soap.  
    
    
    
14. Whenever you feel ready, gently push soap out from the mold
    
    .  
15. Soap will be needing 2 - 4 weeks to fully cure before it is used. Keep soap aside till then.
