DIY Yogurt Soap Using Greek Yogurt

Hi all!
Today’s recipe is for a Greek Goddess Yogurt Soap. To make this soap combine an oil mix with lye flakes, distilled water, greek yogurt and dried chamomile.
The oil mix which contains coconut, olive, castor oil and palm oil provides many benefits to the skin. The oils are anti-inflammatory which reduces inflammation and redness of the skin.
Greek yogurt has anti-aging properties and tightens the pores, making it smoother. Dried chamomile is an antiseptic which is used to heal wounds and reduce scarring of the skin. Finally; add vanilla musk fragrance oil for a sweet smell.
Have fun!

How to Make

Visual Guide

  1. Combine lye flakes with distilled water carefully. Wear gloves & long sleeves to avoid backsplash getting in contact with exposed skin.

  2. Slowly mix with a whisk until all the lye flakes have dissolved in the distilled water. Solution may become hot, do be cautious.

  3. To bring lye solution to room temperature, place container in a water bath.

  4. Measure out your Greek Yogurt carefully to avoid any spillage and then set aside.

  5. Separately, pour your Oil Mix into a heat resistant mixing container. Combine room temperature Lye Water  with the oil mix.

  6. Next, use a whisk and mix until it reaches thin trace. Timing of this may vary as the faster you mix, the faster solution will saponify and reaches thin trace.

  7. Next, add in Vanilla Musk Fragrance Oil. For this, use a pipette for easy measuring & dispensing

  8. Add in Greek Yogurt into the container.

  9. Add in Dried chamomile into the container. Mix everything using a whisk until yogurt & oil are evenly dispersed throughout the soap mixture.

  10. Prepare your silicone mold. Spray with Rubbing Alcohol to sanitise mold. Next, pour in soap mixture into each cavity. Pour carefully, soap might still be warm.

  11. Sprinkle on some more dried chamomile on top of each soap. Then, leave soap for 24 to 48 hours to harden.

  12. Once hardened, carefully pull mold away from soap. This will help preserve those desired sharp & crispy edges of the soap.

  13. Whenever you feel ready, gently push soap out from the mold.

  14. Soap will be needing 2 - 4 weeks to fully cure before it is used. Keep soap aside till then.
