Chinese New Year Special 2019: How To Make Lucky Golden Pear Solid Soap

New year just passed, but another one is here!! Let’s bring in all the Ong with some brand new recipes specially created for CNY :) 

First up, Lucky Golden Pear Cold Process soap. These little cuties not only make excellent soaps, they can become bathroom decorations and give it a great scent too! We begin with our oils to make the cold process soap and as usual, it’s oils which will be great for your skin - coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil and palm oil. 

Next we start working on the important details! Get together your fragrances and colors and it’s time to play. We use Cold Melon Jasmine fragrance for a light fruity and flowery touch, and follow up with Clementine and Banana Orange to bring the festive CNY mood to this soap. We then get to the colors, working with Jade Green and Sparkle gold…. Just look at the photos and you’ll know how pretty it is! 

Finally, to ensure your skin feels amazing, we add in almond oil to nourish and pamper your skin on top of all the oils in our soap. Have fun and do it quickly before the New Year!

Total Time : 100 minutes

Ingredients: (makes 350g soap) 

1. 94.5g Coconut Oil 
2. 94.5g Olive Oil 
3. 31.5g Castor Oil 
4. 94.5g Palm Oil 
5. 46.5g SoapLab’s Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) Pastilles 
6. 46.5g Distilled Water
7. 100g SoapLab’s Opaque White Soap Base 
8. 9g Cold Melon Jasmiine Fragrance Oil 
9. 9g Banana Orange Fragrance Oil 
10. 2g Clementine Fragrance Oil 
11. 5g Jade Green Mica 
12. 8g Sparkle Gold Mica
13. 4g Glycerin
14. 10g Almond Oil 
15. 10-20 sprays of Rubbing Alcohol 

Materials:

1. A pair of gloves
2. A weighing scale
3. Microwave / double boiler 
4. A kitchen knife 
5. 3 heat resistant mixing containers
6. 3 spatula 
7. 1 pipette 
8. 1 350g silicon mold

1. Using a kitchen knife, cut SoapLab’s Opaque White Soap Base into small cubes. The smaller the cube, the faster it will melt.
   
   
   
2. Place cubes into a heat resistant container and melt at 20 seconds interval. Check on soap constantly to avoid soap from getting burn. 
   
   
   
3. Once melted, using a pipette (optional) , add in Clementine Fragrance Oil into the melted soap. Then, mix everything with a spatula. Pour out 40g of melted soap into a separate container. 
   
   
   
4. Mix 2g of Sparkle GOld Mica with 4g of Glycerin. Add premixed Sparkle Gold Mica into the melted soap and mix with a spatula.
   
   
   
5. On a silicon sheet tray, pour the soap and spray with rubbing alcohol. Leave to set. 
   
   
   
6. Using a pear shape cookie cutter, cut out the soap. Then set them aside for later.
   
   
   
7. Coat the pear shape soap with some more Sparkle Gold Mica like so. 
   
   
   
8. In another container, combine Oil Mix with room temperature Lye Water. 
   
   
   
9. Once there, add in Melon Jasmine and Banana Orange Fragrance Oil. Mix everything.
   
   
   
10. Split mixture into 2 equal parts. 
    
    
    
11. Add in Jade Green Mica that has been mixed with some Almond Oil. Mix with a whisk. 
    
12. Pour Green soap mixture into the other container. Do not over mix as this might spoil the marbling pattern. 
    
    
    
13. Pout into a silicone mold and leave the soap to set slightly.
    
    
    
14. Once the soap is strong enough to hold the weight of the pears, place them on the soap according to your desired design. Leave soap to harden for 12 to 24 hours. 
    
    
    
15. Once harden, remove soap from mold. Using a kitchen knife or a soap cutter, cut soap carefully.
    
    
    
16. Soap will be needing 4 weeks to cure. After 4 weeks, soap will be ready to use :-)
