Hi everyone! We’re back with our second CNY special soap. This season, if you want to gift something special and also useful, we’ve got the solution for you. This next soap, was inspired by something you definitely hear during festivities… fire crackers!
We begin by making our cold process soap using coconut oil, castor oil, olive oil and palm oil. All these which have many skin benefits… and the best part? All natural and no unknown chemicals.
We then need to make it look like a fire cracker soap, if not boring kan? We use two colors here.. .vibrant Saffron and Sparkle Gold. For the scent, we will be going with Orange Juice fragrance oil, quite fits the CNY theme ;) Finally, we add in Almond oil for its skin beneficial properties like protecting from UV rays and preventing aging as the vitamin A in Almond oil fights free radicals just like what oranges do. Ingredients: (makes 350g soap)
- 94.5g Coconut Oil
- 94.5g Olive Oil
- 31.5g Castor Oil
- 94.5g Palm Oil
- 46.5g SoapLab’s Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) Pastilles
- 46.5g Distilled Water
- 22g Orange Juice Fragrance Oil
- 10g Saffron Mica
- 20g Almond Oil
- 10g Sparkle Gold Mica

- Combine lye flakes with distilled water carefully. Wear gloves & long sleeves to avoid backsplash getting in contact with exposed skin.
- Slowly mix with a whisk until all the lye flakes have dissolved in the distilled water. Solution may become hot, do be cautious.
- To bring lye solution to room temperature, place container in a water bath.
- Separately, pour your Oil Mix into a heat resistant mixing container. Add in room temperature Lye Water into the mix.
- Next, use a whisk and mix until it reaches thin trace. Timing of this may vary as the faster you mix, the faster solution will saponify and reaches thin trace.
- Add in Orange Juice Fragrance Oil into the mixing container using a pipette. Mix again with a whisk.
- Next, pour half of the mixture into another mixing container.
- To one of the container, add in Saffron Mica that has been diluted with Almond Oil. Again, mix with a whisk.
- Next, spray silicon mold with rubbing alcohol & pour in half of the mixture.
- Using a fine strainer, sprinkle on some Sparkle Gold Mica.
- Next, pour all of the mixture from the other mixing container into the mold.
- Sprinkle on some more Sparkle Gold Mica using a fine strainer. Once done, pour in the rest of the Saffron soap mixture on top of the mica. Save some to for piping later.
- Using a spatula, create soft waves on top of the soap.
- Transfer the rest of the soap mixture into a disposable piping bag.
- Pipe on the top of the soap, loosely taking inspiration from a exploding fire cracker. Once done, leave soap to harden for 24 hours.
- Once harden, remove soap from mold carefully.
- Cut soap using a soap cutter according to desired size. You may also use a normal kitchen knife :)
- Soap needs to cure for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, soap is ready to be use (:

- Make sure all your utensils and work surface is clean and sterilise as dirty area and utensils can reduce shelf life of scrub
- Do not add in any Fresh ingredients that can spoil easily as this will reduce the shelf life of product unless specified in recipe. Click here to find out more
- If applying on face, avoid citrus based or sandalwood essential oil as Malaysian weather will cause your skin to be easily sun burnt. Wear sun protection if add these Essential oils.
