How To Make Solid Shampoo For Dry Scalp

Hi guys, we’re back with a brand new series for lush, gorgeous hair.  This next two weeks im planning to do more on haircare series since we have a lot of skincare already:-) Over the next week ill be writing more articles on how to make and formulate hair care series as well..

Now heres something that im sure you guys will really like! What’s the big deal about this line of products? It’s solid shampoo bars.

Excited? We are! To begin, we use soap lab’s solid shampoo base made with gentle oils that will cleanse and nourish your scalp. As you know, we carefully formulate our soap bases in SoapLab, so that you don’t have to.

Next, add on Gardenia Fragrance oil to give your shampoo a little oomph and you feeling like a million $$$. We then add 2 important ingredients to this shampoo bar. Calamine and Glycerin. Calamine soothes your scalp and relieves it from spending hours in air conditioned rooms and it’s amazing if you suffer from dandruff too. Glycerin is a natural conditioner that works to protect both hair and your scalp from dehydration.

To give this shampoo bar a pop of color, we add in some iron oxide + yellow mica, and voila, all done!

So go ahead and make it guys! The thing I love the most about this is because we are not using those horrible plastic bottles! Its solid and no ‘packaging’ so you are not only having a great strong detergent free hair wash, you are also saving our planet by not throwing away those plastic bottles after use! Have fun!

Visual Guide :

  1.  Prepare Solid Shampoo Base. Cut 350g of SoapLab’s Solid Shampoo Base into little cubes, the smaller the cubes the faster it will melt.

  2. Place container in the microwave. Melt them at 20 seconds interval. Check during each intervals, this is to avoid your shampoo from getting burnt. Shampoo base may also be melted using an induction cooker or double boiler.

  3. Once everything is melted, add in Calamine Powder that has been diluted with glycerin into the melted shampoo base.

  4. Next, add in Gardenia Fragrance Oil into shampoo mixture. You may use a pipette to ease measuring & dispensing.

  5. Add in half of the Iron Oxide Yellow Mica that has been diluted with glycerin into the mixing container.

  6. Using a normal baking spatula, mix shampoo mixture until the oil and mica are evenly dispersed in the shampoo.

  7. Next, grab your 6 cavity  Silicon Mold and Rubbing Alcohol. Spray the mold with alcohol in order to provide a sterile surface, ideal for your solid shampoo to sit in. Pour in shampoo mixture half full in each cavity.

  8. Once done, pour in the rest of the premixed mica into the remaining shampoo mixture and mix.

  9. Pour in the rest of the shampoo mixture into the half filled cavities. Pour the mixture until it reaches the brim.

  10. Once done, using a pipette, swirl the 2 colours together then spray the top part of the soap with more Rubbing Alcohol to eliminate air bubbles and achieve a  smooth surface on the shampoo. Leave shampoo to harden for 12 to 24 hours.
  11. Once hardened, pull away mold from soap slowly. This is to preserve the crisp and sharp edges of the solid shampoo.

  12. Once ready, remove soap carefully from the mold one by one.

  13. Once all of them are out, they are ready to add a little fun in your shower with these solid shampoo (:
