How To Make Fresh Coffee Soap (Cold Process Method)

Here is one for all the coffee lovers out there! Coffee is not only a great boost in the morning, it also is great for your skin. In todays’s recipe we will be adding coffee to our soap using the method called cold process method. We prefer cold process method because its making the soaps from scratch (where you can choose your favorite oils) and it also retains most of the nutrients from the coffee that you are adding in. To read more about the method and formulating; click here to find out more.

To make the soap add lye flakes, distilled water Barista Bro’s iced coffee flavoured milk (or any brand or you can diy) and ground coffee to an oil mix. The oil mix contains palm, coconut, castor and olive oil and is extremely nourishing. Olive oil is rich with antioxidants, and unclogs pores. This leaves the skin glowing and radiant. The Barista Bro’s iced coffee flavoured milk will hydrate and moisturize the skin. Ground coffee is used to exfoliate the skin, and will leave it smooth and soft.

Add café caramel fragrance oil, as a final touch, to get that delicious coffee aroma. Enjoy!

  1. Combine lye flakes with distilled water carefully. Wear gloves & long sleeves to avoid backsplash getting in contact with exposed skin.

  2. Slowly mix with a whisk until all the lye flakes have dissolved in the distilled water. Solution may become hot, do be cautious.

  3. To bring lye solution to room temperature, place container in a water bath.

  4. Measure out the Iced Coffee Flavoured Milk carefully to avoid any spillage and then set aside.

  5. Separately, pour your Oil Mix into a heat resistant mixing container. Combine room temperature Lye Water  with the oil mix.

  6. Next, use a whisk and mix until it reaches thin trace. Timing of this may vary as the faster you mix, the faster solution will saponify and reaches thin trace.
  7. Next, add in Cafe Caramel Fragrance Oil. For this, use a pipette for easy measuring & dispensing.

  8. Next, add in grounded coffee

  9. Add in Iced Coffee Flavoured Milk into the container and mix everything using a whisk until milk & oil are evenly dispersed throughout the soap mixture.

  10. Prepare your silicone mold. Spray with Rubbing Alcohol to sanitise mold. Next, pour in soap mixture into each cavity. Pour carefully, soap might still be warm.

  11. Sprinkle on some more grounded coffee on top of each soap. Then, leave soap for 24 to 48 hours to harden.

  12. Once hardened, carefully pull mold away from soap. This will help preserve those desired sharp & crispy edges of the soap.

  13. Whenever you feel ready, gently push soap out from the mold.

  14. Soap will be needing 2 -  4 weeks to fully cure before it is used. Keep soap aside till then.
