Tuesday, 18 December 2018

In today’s recipe we will be making another cold process soap using milk. Click here to read more about the cp soapmaking. To make a cold process soap, a combination of an oil mix and lye flakes is needed. This creates a long lasting gentle soap.

Today’s recipe is for the rice milk & rosemary bits soap bar. Firstly, you will need an oil mix. The oil mix is a combination of coconut, olive, castor and palm oil which provide nourishment to the skin. Palm oil, which is rich with antioxidants, protects the skin, and provides an anti-aging effect to the skin.

Add lye flakes, distilled water, Pacific’s rice milk and rosemary to the oil mix and you will get a soap!.  Pacific’s rice milk is a great moisturizer which helps even skin tone. This makes your skin glow. Rosemary is used a gentle exfoliator, which keeps the skin healthy.

Finally add rice petals and shea butters fragrance oil giving the soap a fresh and exciting smell.

  1. Combine lye flakes with distilled water carefully. Wear gloves & long sleeves to avoid backsplash getting in contact with exposed skin.

  2. Slowly mix with a whisk until all the lye flakes have dissolved in the distilled water. Solution may become hot, do be cautious.

  3. To bring lye solution to room temperature, place container in a water bath.

  4. Measure out Pacific’s Rice Milk carefully to avoid any spillage and then set aside.

  5. Separately, pour your Oil Mix into a heat resistant mixing container. Combine room temperature Lye Water  with the oil mix.

  6. Next, use a whisk and mix until it reaches thin trace. Timing of this may vary as the faster you mix, the faster solution will saponify and reaches thin trace.

  7. Once it reaches thin trace, add in the Rosemary.

  8. Next, add in Rice Petals & Shea Butter Fragrance Oil. For this, use a pipette for easy measuring & dispensing

  9. Add in Rice Milk into the container and mix everything using a whisk until milk, rosemary & oil are evenly dispersed throughout the soap mixture.

  10. Prepare your silicone mold. Spray with Rubbing Alcohol to sanitise mold. Next, pour in soap mixture into each cavity. Pour carefully, soap might still be warm.

  11. Sprinkle on some more  rosemary on top of each soap. Then, leave soap for 24 to 48 hours to harden.

  12. Once hardened, carefully pull mold away from soap. This will help preserve those desired sharp & crispy edges of the soap.

  13. Whenever you feel ready, gently push soap out from the mold.

  14. Soap will be needing 2 - 4 weeks to fully cure before it is used. Keep soap aside till then.
